TOP-Splice is an innovative SMT splice that allows SMT cover tapes to be quickly & easily joined to avoid any unnecessary downtime for your automatic placement machines. Thanks to the wide handle, the self-adhesive strip can be attached precisely to the cover film thus providing a virtually seamless join between the two ends of the SMT cover tapes. TOP-Splice also impresses with an ESD safe surface that prevents electrostatic discharge (ESD). This avoids component failures that may mean a shorter lifetime in the product later on and high financial losses as a result.

An application example using the SMT splice tape - step by step:
First step:
For the TOP-Splice you also need an SMD splice pliers (“magazine” pliers or “mono” pliers). This includes the appropriate splicing plates (for the “magazine” pliers or for the “mono” pliers).
Second step:
To successfully join the two SMT cover tapes using TOP-Splice, place a splice shim into the SMD splicing tool first, followed by the ends of the cover tapes and then crimp them on the underside by pressing the handles together.
Third step:
The adhesive surface is exposed simply by removing the silicon paper on the back. Then press the SMT splice tape to fit accurately onto the cover films of the crimped SMT cover tape ends.
Fourth step:
The last step is to separate the handle along the micro-perforation and then remove it from the now stuck SMT cover tape.
